Shah Rukh Khan’s beyond competition

He is being panned for a marketing overkill for his most ambitious venture yet, but Shah Rukh Khan, who overwhelmed the Bangalore crowd with his Chammak Challo moves, asserts that after two decades in the industry, there is no competition.

You roped in Rajinikanth sir for a cameo in your new film.

When Rajini sir arrived on the sets, he was wearing a white shirt and said, 'I will just shoot one scene here and then I will go back to Chennai and finish.' This was when he hadn't begun shooting of Rana. I am extremely touched by his gesture and am very fortunate to have worked with him.

How rigorous was it shooting for the film?

It took almost two hours to wear the superhero costume. But there were all these girls who helped me, so it was nice. I lost about six kgs during the shoot of this film.

Will you go back to romancing girls after being a superhero?

I enjoyed doing this film, but now I want to make romantic movies.
Very soon you will be promoting Don 2 as an anti-hero. Will your fans globally be able to accept that image?
I am sure that if people like me as a superhero, they will like me in a stubbly beard as well. They are two different films, with two different looks and yes, I have given both my best shot.

Why is the rest of the cast - Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal - not promoting the film?

Kareena is shooting for another film and I hate to disturb my actors. So I made it to the show here.

Hema Malini's film is releasing on the same day as yours. Is there a sense of competition?

The more the merrier. Hemaji was my first producer and she is like family to me. She gave me a place to stay, gave me food and even lent me her makeup man. I owe my whole career to her.

Suriya's film is also releasing along with yours. Will that affect your audience in the south?
Why does everything have to be a battle or a war when there is no fight? I am not battling with anyone. I am not aware of his film, but yes I have to see it. There is no competition.

Why did you get Akon to sing for the film

I don't know, obviously because I can't sing like Akon. (laughs)
